25th Anniversary of the IWR

In 1987 the federal state of Baden Württemberg and Heidelberg University founded the IWR as one of the first nationwide research centers to focus on Scientific Computing. This young discipline grew swiftly, in parallel with the development of computer technology, to a new source of hope for the sciences. Today, Scientific Computing is seen as the third pillar of science, alongside theory and experiment.

The role of the IWR in this success story is extraordinary. As one of the world's leading centres for Scientific Computing it has significantly shaped its own discipline and has developed into an international hotspot in interdisciplinary science.
