Computer Server at the IWR

For modeling and simulation problems there are NUMA machines with large main memory for all IWR researchers available.

Its architecture is based on symmetrical multiprocessing (SMP), i.e. on multiprocessing architectures with at least two or more identical processors that possess a joint address space. Therefore the processors with the same physical address uses the same memory cell or the same peripherals register. The advantage of SMP is that processes are distributed dynamically on available processors. Above all the 384 gigabyte main memory of the compute server may be used without MPI programming (or standard programs like matlab). MPI is also available if it is necessary to fasten the program by using several cores (up to 48/server).
